You’re not alone. For whatever reason in college I chose communications, and had to present constantly. I usually started off by saying something like, “First off I have a speech impediment and if it’s awkward for you, just imagine what it’s like for me.” Follow it with a smile so they know it’s a light hearted joke and I typically got some good laughs. Eased some tension. I don’t know about you, but I have good days and bad days, and I spoke with my teacher/professor beforehand and said if it’s a bad day I’d like an eject button. The teacher can’t grade you down for an impediment. That’s like the PE teacher failing the crippled kid for not completing the mile run. But that doesn’t address being mortified. Which I totally get. Hang in there. I realize all those people’s opinions mean the world to you right now, they did to me too, but get through it with your head held high. You’re you! And that’s awesome. Half of em are going to be crackheads or trailer trash anyway, at least where I grew up lol.
