There's plenty of people who stutter (PWS) who attend college and do fine. I do suggest if your son takes a speech course or any course where the professor requires a presentation to be made to tell the professor about his speech impediment. Otherwise he may be graded unfairly. What has he told you so far? In my experience, people don't care about my dysfluencies as long as I don't care about them. Before when I was obviously self-conscious of my stutter people were hesitant to talk to me, but once I became comfortable it changed. When you exude confidence, you normalize it. You, your friends, your relatives, and your son need to normalize it. Your concerns are completely valid and understandable. You care about your son & want the best for him. I do suggest you be careful on you how approach his stutter. Sometimes the way a parent talks or behaves can negatively influence the child's speech. You may be making the situation worse. Also, there's no research proven cure for stuttering. A speech therapist's job is to provide compensatory strategies to mitigate the stuttering. I suggest you work on accepting it.
