I feel like the phrase "get over" it is wrong. It has a connotation that the stutter isn't really a big deal when it very obviously is a very big deal to you. You will eventually need to make peace with having the stutter however. That is something that will come with time though. You will grow and change as a person and it just won't matter as much to you. Hard to believe, I know. The big realization that helped me was when I realized that 90% of the time my stutter is a MUCH bigger deal to me than it is to the other person. If people react negatively they either do so because they don't know what's going on and once they are told it's fine or they are just one of the very rare genuine jerks who aren't worth worrying over anyway.
