Have you ever been inadvertently mean to someone to avoid stuttering?

Have you ever been inadvertently mean to someone to avoid stuttering? Was thinking about this today and was wondering if others have been mean to others to avoid stuttering. One time during college some clubs/organizations were having a study competition and we had to log hours on a paper in a room at the library. I went into the room to log my hours and a group of girls asked my name. My name is what I stutter on the most so I just said "it's on the paper" and walked away. In hindsight it probably reflected poorly on the organization I was representing but I wasn't in the mood to embarrass myself taking 20 seconds to say my name! There's been other times where I've struggled to say "thank you" to people holding open the door for me. I feel bad because they think I'm ignoring their nice deed but I just can't verbalize my appreciation! Anyone else got similar stories?
