What helps you? (and other questions) Good morning everyone! I don't know why I never thought to check for a subreddit for the literal biggest thing to effect my life on a day-to-day basis. So here I am! I've been stuttering for as long as I can remember. I had extensive speech therapy in elementary school and I was given a "good enough" sign off in late elementary. I have the typical stutter (sound repetition) as well as the inability to make certain sounds at certain points (I've never actually met a fellow stutterer in the wild, so I don't know what's common). When I say inability to make a sound, I mean no matter what I do I can't force myself to say certain syllables. Most commonly the "th" sound, but it has happened with almost every sound at this point. I can say any other sound or word but I won't be able to make what ever sound I locked up on until 15-30 seconds pass and try again. I compare it to a computer freezing. Introduction aside or I'll be here all day sharing my experiences... What helps you combat the stutter? About the only thing I've found that helps me is rehearsing something until it's basically just a movie script I'm following with predefined twists and turns. Have you ever ran into someone who also stutters? I've always thought it was a somewhat common thing, but I just realized today that I've never actually spoken with or ran into anyone else in my life who shares the problem.
