First job interview. I’m 17 and I recently applied for my first job. I’ve been wanting to get a job for awhile, but my stuttering has held me back because there’s not many jobs you can get as a teen that don’t require a heavy amount of speaking. The reason I just applied for one is because I found one at an animal shelter where I will just have to feed cats and change their litter boxes. I love cats and I don’t think that job requires much speaking so it’s perfect for me. I just got a response back and I was asked if I would like to pick a day to come in and do an interview. My kind of stuttering is pretty severe, I get speech blocks all the time and it takes me a long time and a lot of stuttering to get out of them so I’m very nervous. I haven’t replied back yet because I have to work out a day with my mom first. Should I mention that I have a speech disorder when I get back to them? Or should I just go in without telling them? Also what can I expect to happen at the interview/how long should it be? I looked up some interview questions, but I feel like since this is a very simple job that just involves interacting with cats the questions will be different? I feel like once I have the job I’ll be fine and won’t have to worry about my stuttering much, but this interview is literally the most terrifying thing to me right now. I’ve looked up the shelter and it has very good reviews and people have said the staff is very nice and friendly so that makes me feel a little better.
