Thanks for sharing your experience! I haven’t started yet, so I won’t know how I’m coping until after I start on the floor. But I can speak on my experience as a nursing student. I haven’t had any experiences that I can remember where a person mentioned it. If I’m having a hard time ( usually when I’m feeling anxious) few ppl made kinda weird facial expressions but other than that 🤷🏽‍♀️ I am a bit nervous when I start on the floor and have to talk on the phone to family members and doctors, ngl. So I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I get there 😵‍💫 my stutter is exacerbated by my social anxiety. When I’m not nervous, I rarely stutter or have any issues. My stutter is more of a block rather than letter repetition (idk if that’s the right term lol but I hope you get my point). My hardest letters are R & M, so any words that starts with those letters are a bit tough for me. When I say words that start with those letters when I’m talking to myself, I’m fine. But if someone asks me what college I went to (it starts with one of those letters) I struggle a bit. I used to tell people I had a speech issue, but now I don’t. It’s not that I try to hide it, I just don’t see it as necessary to explain to people? Idk. If I noticed someone with a stutter, they don’t have to explain to me why they’re stuttering. I can see they have one, sure.. but like, so what? I’m a work in progress, and I’m a lot harder on myself than anyone else can be, but it hurts when I hear people who have a stutter/speech impediment talk down on themselves (I know, a little hypocritical). If you truly have the passion for healthcare & know that you want to do right by your patients, I think the right people will see that and not see a person who stutters. I wish you the best in your nursing journey ❤️
