We've only got one life to live. Some of us have to live that life with a stutter. Of course money isn't everything, but for many professions the path to advancement is networking via conferences and presentations. That's life. Wouldn't you rather deal with your stutter with a bigger paycheck, than safely stay home with a lower salary? I'll happily deal with a few chuckles or "did you forget your name!?" incidents a year to better provide for my family, even if those moments truly suck.
