* In his book, Lee pounds the angle of "Stuttering is a habit. Fluency is a habit." On page 64, Lee writes, "Stuttering is a trained response: Like it or not, we allowed that habit." * Lee continues, "One key to the cause of stuttering is determining when it began. Stuttering begins when children (predominately ages 3-5, some 6-10, a smaller percentage in their teens, and a very few in their twenties) stumble over words, and they are either corrected or mocked; as they strive harder to please, they compound their mistakes. The snowball of stutters thus begins." * Lee calls the workarounds I shared earlier "Crutches." On page 115, Lee writes, "What do I mean by 'Crutch': any technique that enables a PWS to DODGE a soon-to-be stuttered/blocked word. I could NEVER have self-cured without using Crutches." * Lee writes on page 120, "Just remember that most stutter-blocks can be avoided by most of the Crutches; it is not necessary to 'pick the right one.' All of them are 'right and will work in most situations. There is no need to panic and start stuttering; take a two-count, if needed, grab a Crutch and keep right on talking. No one notices or cares." * His “cures” for stuttering are workarounds. After finishing the 500+ page book, I summed up his stuttering “cures” this way: [Stuttering tips](https://i.imgur.com/ojONLZV.jpg)
