Introducing myself is the hardest thing for me to do. If I know for certain that someone is coming over to introduce themselves, the thing that typically helps me is if I take control of the introduction. I won't cut them off if they start to talk to not appear to be rude, but if I control the conversation then I usually do pretty good. It's when I have no choice but to say my name is when I struggle. So if they tell me their name, then I'm stuck in this weird mental block. We develop tactics and different words to use when we know we will struggle with certain words. But your name, there is no other option, so I think that's why something as simple as our own names are hard for some to say because we don't have a backup plan.
