This was great to read. I'm also a software developer but I'm still at the "hiding in my cube" part of the story. I get on well with my colleagues and have no problem with talking to them. But I'm still afraid of speaking to customers. But hopefully I will be able to overcome this fear and have a similar journey like yours.
