Hi there, I've been a stutter my whole life (i'm 41), and work in a career in marketing where I have to make presentations (informal and formal), and speak up in small groups with my opinion. It was really hard when I was in my early twenties. I was so ashamed and.embarrassed (and at times, I still am). However, the more I would practice my speech word for word, and also have my script written down in front of me for formal presentations, it really helped. I would stutter occasionally but not as much. In addition, I finally got on Xanax and propranolol(beta blocker) when I knew I had a presentation or needed to speak "off the cuff" in a larger group. That helps tremendously and I speak with more fluidity. It's not perfectly but it helps with the anxiety of speaking, and takes away my racing heart rate which makes my stutter worse. Anyways, I would say...go ahead and make the presentation. The more you do it, the more it becomes second nature and you'll get more confidence over time. Remember, everyone (stutterers and non stutters) hates public speaking, so you are not alone!
