Very similar to the person first (person who stutters) vs disability first (stutterer or stuttering person). Stuttering person isn't used much but for other disabilities/idk how to word this but "differences" it is (think- autistic person). I [commented](https://www.reddit.com/r/NoStupidQuestions/comments/oz7bcw/why_is_calling_asians_yellow_offensive_but/h7ziymd/?context=3) about this before on r/NoStupidQuestions. It's basically how you view this (possible) identity. If you're okay with it, which I think we should be then identifying with it isn't an issue. If you embrace it, only other people will have a problem with it and, well, that's THEIR problem. For the person w/ the disability/stutter I feel like accepting it is the best way. For stuttering specifically, confidence is key, fake or not. If you don't make it a big deal, typically, others wont. For this person you're talking to, it seems as if this program is trying to get rid of his stutter so imho probably won't be very helpful bc it's near impossible to hide stuttering. For me, at least, it's a physical issue worsened, not caused, by emotions (excitement or anxiety) > That's called person-first ideology. Typically from what I've seen, people prefer disability first i.e. disabled person, autistic person, etc. However, there are some people, like my cousin, who prefer person-first i.e. person with autism. Bc of this, I use person first thinking w/ my cousin and descriptor first w/ everyone else bc the majority prefer it that way. In all honesty/possibly unpopular opinion, I feel sad for people who really hate such a crucial part of themselves. Without my cousin's autism, he would be a different person. Yes, he might be able to drive and be independent but that's a part of what makes him, him. Same with my stutter and my ADHD and OCD. Yes, I wouldn't struggle as much but I wouldn't be me without them.
