Of course this drug can temporarily ease muscle tension, which might make speech feel smoother. But it’s important to be careful here. Drugs like Baclofen aren’t designed or approved for treating stuttering, and over time your body tends to adapt to them, meaning any initial benefits usually fade. There’s also the issue of side effects and dependency. Long-term use can cause fatigue, dizziness, cognitive dulling, and withdrawal symptoms if you stop suddenly. More importantly, relying on medication or quick fixes can make it harder to work through the deeper, psychological and behavioural aspects of fluency that speech therapy and self-acceptance can help with. In the long run, addressing the underlying tension, fear, and patterns around speech is much safer and more sustainable than trying to manage it pharmacologically. Drugs can sometimes mask the symptoms, but they rarely help build the genuine confidence and ease that come from working through the base issues.
