Don’t stutter when I put my thumb between my teeth. Is this a speech therapy method?

Don’t stutter when I put my thumb between my teeth. Is this a speech therapy method? I’ve noticed talking on the phone I don’t stutter when I have my thumb or something in between my teeth. Is this a traditional speech therapy method? Or could it be used to help train in not stuttering? Obviously you can’t do this in public really
