Problem is, phone screenings are super trendy right now. I've never had to do a phone interview until this year, and now everybody is doing them because Forbes or somebody said it's the greatest thing ever. It seems like the number of companies taking this approach is well north of 75%. The entire purpose of a phone screening is for the interviewer to determine which candidates aren't a waste of their time, which means anybody who stutters doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of actually being invited to an in-person interview.
