Hi Jiilan, I meant to respond to this sooner, but I'm so bombed with work from the first week of grad school. I'm really interested to hear from an SLP in the 'trenches', and interested to hear that your grad school experience wasn't predictive of your subsequent strong interest in fluency. We are quite fortunate to have an excellent fluency expert as a professor, but opportunities to work with PWS is limited. I'm looking forward to having more freedom to specialize after graduation -- though I'm not sure exactly what my forte will be. You've listed some amazing resources, though, and I'm sure they will be helpful as I make my way through this course. But I'm unclear on the whole idea of board certification, to be honest. For one thing, I'm Canadian and many things are different up here, and for another, I've been too busy worrying about getting INTO grad school to look much into certifications. Can I ask whether one needs to be board certified in order to work with PWS? Surely SLPs don't have wait 5+ years after graduation before they can deal with clients who stutter, do they? If not, what exactly does certification allow you to do?
