Yes, and please remember I'm not offering this as a solution. As you said, it is expensive and not very practical, but it can be eye-opening. You're very young, so there might be programs you can take advantage of that might be feasible... And truly--even just a couple of months can be such a breath of fresh air. In the meantime, I am seeing lots of great advice and support here, too. :)
