Do you have anything you can cite? According to the 11th edition of Self-Therapy for the Sutterer (published by The Stuttering Foundation): "I have found that many people who stutter seem to be drawn toward jobs or professions where the use of verbal communication is paramount. It is not uncommon to find people who have difficulty speaking becoming salesman, lawyers, psychologists, and radio announcers." - Dominick A. Barbara, PhD, MD. If you are an SLP you would definite know more than me so feel free to let me know I'm wrong, but most people want to avoid the anxiety and feelings involved with stuttering more than the stutter itself (especially when younger). I personally, with a moderate stutter, worked in a call center st 23 and I'm still working in one at 35. Albeit a different role, but my need for verbal communication remains the same.
