Let me put it this way: I'm relieved that the stuttering has been overcome. The point is, what the speech therapist says isn't correct. Because the diaphragm is attached to the ribs, and the nature of muscles is that they can stretch, they function better when stretched. You can recruit the diaphragm better when you stretch it. Not by the abdomen though. Since the diaphragn is attached to the ribs, you need to train the intercostal muscles. And you do this, well, I won't explain everything, but you need certain approaches, techniques that make the rib cage flexible, increasing the movement of the ribs. This, in turn, allows the diaphragm to tense better. Then you have much better control over the diaphragm. And then, you certainly shouldn't breathe against resistance. That's just nonsense. It's completely unscientific. I come from a scientific background, and I would say, show me, where does it state that this is beneficial? It's not good at all, in fact, it's just not true.
