Did I get fired because of my stutter? Hello guys. Today, I was fired from work, which I suspect was because of my stutter. It was my first shift today, working in an IKEA. But at the end of my shift, my supervisor told me that I could not work anymore. I was working as an online grocery picker, helping customers pack their orders which they packed online. The minimum speed for workers there is 3 orders per hour. However, since it was my first day, I was still navigating around the IKEA, such that my 1 hour break only was 40 minutes since I was finding my way to the co-worker canteen. Anyways, his claim was that I was too slow and therefore my services were not needed anymore. Although I was slow at 2 orders per hour at the , I believed that it was not fully my fault since he just threw me into working as an online picker without giving me time to scout the place and familiarise myself with the working procedures. He did in fact guide me through the first customer's order but cmon, 1 round around 10% of the whole IKEA is not going to make me absorb the entire layout of the place. That IKEA is hugeeeeee at 400,000 square feet or 37,000 square metres. It was my first day, so why am I expected to maintain the standards of those who have already worked there 5+ years? That is why, I highly suspect it was because of my stutter. I was pretty much fluent working throughout the job. Despite some elongated blocks, I still managed to convey my thoughts across in a effective manner (like hand signs, speaking louder). Overall, I would rate my speech a 7.5/10. I believed it didnt hinder my job performance as I am mainly doing manual labour without much talking. So when the supervisor told me that my services were not needed anymore, I felt so lost because I really liked the job. ~ TLDR, I want to burst out crying because I suspect my supervisor fired me because of my stutter. My confidence is at an all time low and I feel super sad for my dad who had applied for me this role and had high hopes of me maintaining this job till my holidays end. Any advice for me? I want to now practice on Omegle or other sites talking to strangers for 2 hours daily.
