Well, for starters, I would lose all the excess weight. That in itself will go a long ways in helping get your confidence and self esteem back, which will in turn make it easier for you to socialize. Just exercise in itself is hugely beneficial for relieving stress and anxiety, which could help you. And you do need to socialize, especially if you’re inherently an extrovert. So go out and make some friends. It probably won’t be the same as when you didn’t stutter, but worthwhile nevertheless. Personally, I feel that I’m really good at connecting with introverts and quieter types and am able to get people to open up about themselves because I grew up stuttering and know what it’s like to grow up being quiet myself. In a strange way, this may be an opportunity for you to connect with a whole different subset of society and develop a new set of people skills. A lot of people are good talkers but terrible listeners. I don’t know how severe your stutter is so I may be overly optimistic, but given that even alcohol fixes your stutter, it seems on the milder side.
