That approach is becoming more old fashioned and out of date. My personal opinion is this is what speech paths do when they don't know better and this is the only thing they were taught. I'm willing to bet you already know whether or not you like this approach or how helpful it is. I don't know where you live, but my recommendation would be to check out if there are stuttering community organizations in your country and join them. Being around other people who stutter, talking to a variety who have tried a lot of things and have unique knowledge is the most helpful thing I can recommend, especially at this age (but honestly, any age). I know Canada, the UK, Indian, etc.. For example have such organizations. In the meantime, if your answer to he therapist question isn't positive, I'd at least research who else is out there and ask about their approach to stuttering therapy.
