As a female stutterer, the only female sibling and stutterer in my family, it’s tough. BUT… stuttering made me more resilient, tougher and willing to face any challenge. Now in my 70s, I have perspective regarding my stuttering because of much worse life events. I was widowed at 26, diagnosed with Hodgkin disease (cancer of the lymph nodes) at 29, miscarried three time in my mid 30s, had a double mastectomy at 50, uterine cancer at 60 and now at 71 my husband if 37 years has Alzheimer’s. Stuttering isn’t squat compared to that sh*t. It’s about perspective. Unfortunately, perspective only comes with age and doesn’t help you when you have a hard block. Nothing is perfect. Nobody is perfect. Sometimes ya have to work with the hand you were dealt with. It ain’t pretty, but neither is life.
