This is definitely a thing. My stutter started the same way; mostly repetitions of the last sound of the word. I remember it very clearly because I would think to myself, "ok, I've basically said the word, why can't I stop?" My stutter has changed multiple times during my life. Your daughter's stutter may change over time as well.
