I had it for a few years in elementary school, and then one day in 3rd grade I just decided I was done with it and refused to go anymore. The mechanical techniques didn't seem to help at all, and therapy just made me more aware of the problem and made me feel worse about myself. I also hated missing class for those 30 minutes because I was always totally confused about what was going on after a speech session. I'm 40 now and have not attempted therapy since then. I've had a few friends over the years that are speech therapists, and anytime I brought up stuttering therapy with them the general consensus has been that nothing really works except for self acceptance.
