This is very true for some of us. I had it real bad ever since i remember until around 26 years old. I would get stuck on all the letters, mostly sss, fff and repeat like t t t, k k k. It was horrible. Luckily, i did not get bullied as much. But the pitiful look on people's faces still haunts me. And i still have trouble with eye contact. At 26 years old, i got a job where i had to speak on the phone with many people, but each call was short. I used to sweat and get extremely nervous every time i had to answer or make a call. But the short duration of the call was a little comforting, and i mostly had to ask a few things over and over. After about a week speaking to and meeting strangers, it got better and better. Now i stutter when i am nervous or very tired or get excited and talk fast. I became a little monotone to not get too carried away and not speak fast. So, just like op took the leap and got in the debate club. Forcing myself to speak to people really helped me. Also, english is my second language, and I stutter in both languages. To all the young fellas, don't lose hope.
