It does get you down. I stuttered in school but when I got to college it was still there but nobody really knew. I used word replacement for the words I was going to stutter on and a light accent change, I was OK. I guess once I got to my mid-late 20s my stutter became more prominent.i noticed this was when I used to to think about stuttering it became worse, possibly as I was getting more anxious. I am now in my mid 30s working in software development , I guess it affected more more as the years went on. I take myself out of social situations now alot more then I used to. I need to 'hum' to myself loud to be able to start my sentence now most of the time. There are a few things which may have contributed to this. 1) I did smoke pot heavily from the age of 20-30, I also recreationly used coke and must have dropped around 5 pills all together. For someone who has a stutter I guess this made it all worse Interms of the brain cells and anxiety 2)my age and drug use has probably slowed my brain down which now makes is difficult to replace words like I used to. I find it difficult to think of the words I need to use. It feels like I have a break on in my brain worried people will hear me stutter. I am not proud writing this. 3) I think way to much about everything *sad fact. I had been married for 4 years (seperated for 2 years and about to apply for a divorce). I was never able to discuss this with my "wife", I also didn't do a speech on my wedding. She is a social butterfly and I am the opposite 😪. I met her when I was around 28 and I guess I was more confident and a different person when we met. I read on reddit vitamin b1 and magnesium can help with stuttering. I have been using it for a week so far. Can anyone recommend anything in terms of supplements for the brain ? Cheers 👌🏻
