I feel like we are having different conversations and that you are not acknowledging the secondary behaviors associated dysfluency. Humans are wired to notice non-verbals, and expecting them to stop doing that feels…odd and unrealistic. Sure, in the sterile environment of your office, you can ignore the non-verbals. Of course the goals should be to reduce tension so that secondary bxs decrease and all that’s left is repetitions, etc. yes, lay listeners can and do ignore repetitions, esp when we disclose. NO! ONE CAN IGNORE! that tone I just used.
