let’s put it this way, people treat fast food and retail employees who Don’t have stutters terribly just because they think they can. i worked the register at this fast casual place and i cried at work a lot. even after routine transactions became more automatic for me, having to answer specific questions or explain things was very difficult. but at the end of the day, i was never so bad at my job that i was fired or told i had to talk better/faster by my employers. i think a good way to look at it, for anyone working a customer facing job where customers are often entitled and rude, is to have a realistic expectation that people aren’t gonna be great to you, and let people pleasantly surprise you when they treat you with kindness.
