Ahhhh… The freeze contortions… I know thee well… There is a visible “freeze” that happens when we are blocked - I reviewed it in myself with the speech pathologists at my university when I gave them an example of the difference between conversation and reading aloud… The contortions are secondary behaviors to try and break that freeze. I found I really needed to start with a set of fluency modification strategies - first make a sound on each exhale… Then lighten the contact for hard sounds originating in my throat… Then make a relaxed contact (lips and tongue) and make sounds… Then read in, what I call my “NPR” slow monotone voice… Then modify that voice with inflections…
