I graduated college, have a full time job, and my stutter is no longer a barrier in my life. I’m never in full control of my stutter, but I have a lot more fluency. Sometimes I do have bad days, like yesterday- which really stems from lack of self-confidence. When I do have fluency, I realize it’s because of the old saying “slow down when you speak”. Many of us have heard of that saying. However, I came to implement that in a similar but different way, which is deliberately having a speaking cadence. Like, if I know each word that I’m gonna say, I allow myself to speak in a certain rhythmic (but natural) way. For example, let’s say you say the phrase: “I’m doing great”. The stress would be on “great”. Kind of hard to explain, because it’s rather technical. Outside of technical advice, I really just put myself in public speaking situations. It was rather hard. Like honestly, I even cried. But, in the end, I really learned a lot for myself. I don’t regret doing it, because it’s helped me have better, but not perfect fluency”
