I believe since we are born into sin, and born WITH sin, things like this can happen.. But overcoming our obstacles and fulfilling God's plan and will are something He knows we can handle. I have previously lived my life in fear, ashamed of my stutter, but when I started praying to God and believing in Him, my life became a whole lot better. I made friends, became a part of the community, and became someone that everybody likes. I think that letting God into my life and believing he would guide me is what made my life better. Although he won't magically cure my stutter, he will make sure that I win my battles and life my life the way he planned.
