I'm conflicted because I stutter and I don't want to see kids tortured needlessly. But I am also an adult who had to defend my MS thesis, and had to give a presentation at the interview for the job I currently hold. Public speaking is a part of life. I recently talked to our office of public affairs because my boss wanted me to give an interview to a local TV reporter. Ultimately I declined this time but it's going to come up again. I've taken media training, and I stuttered in the on-camera portion of that training. It was excruciating to me. It was never mentioned in my critique. When I asked our public affairs officer he told me he would feel entirely comfortable with me going on camera. "You're knowledgeable and competent. Stuttering doesn't change the message we want to get out to the public, nor does it change the fact you're perfectly capable of delivering it."
