Hi I’m Mexican American and am a senior at university, and stuttering has made speaking exceedingly difficult. When I’m practicing my Spanish, it’s very tough to get through sentences. Also, stuttering in Spanish is “tartamudeo.” Why is it hard to say in both English and Spanish?? I have tried to practice learning Mandarin, and that wasn’t too bad but once again when it came to practicing speaking that was tough. I was able to hide it well, because I could play it off as not knowing the word. It really sucks because I sincerely enjoy learning languages but it was very hard to find the motivation knowing that it’s basically for not and that I’ll probably never be able to speak fluently since I can’t even be fluent in my native tongue. Overall, it’s pretty difficult to learn a new language with a stutter. Having the stutter makes it tough to have motivation to keep at it. It really sucks because I like languages, but I’m trying to learn ASL and maybe that can be a different avenue I can take to satiate my urge to learn languages. I am available for more correspondences if needed and if anyone else wants to talk about stuttering I’m here as well.
