Overcame stuttering until I caught bronchitis So I'm a lifelong stutterer and decided to go to speech therapy for my stutter. The speech therapy helped so much and I made the stutter almost unnoticeable. I even talked to a couple of SLPs later and they didn't think I had a stutter until I told them! My entire social life improved and I never felt so free. It only lasted a few months though. In the winter I kept getting sick and ultimately I caught bronchitis. Being unable to talk for 6 weeks without coughing brought back my stuttering. Except it made it even worse. So I decided to go back to speech therapy before I start my nursing program. I'm two weeks in and have seen some improvement, but it has been slower than before. My therapist was surprised that it got so bad until I told her I had bronchitis. She said that bronchitis makes people use different muscles to help them speak without coughing, which isn't a problem for most. But for stutterers, it makes it even worse. But I'm sure I'll get better. I overcame it and will do it again.
