I really like the approach you take. I personally do the same because as you get deeper into academia, you learn everyone has their own quirks. It may have taken years of acceptance, but I feel great relief in being in a place now where I will stutter without breaking eye contact, demanding space and patience to speak, and I give that same respect to those I talk/listen to as well.
