When I used to work in the mental health field, many of my patients that had psychosis/schizophrenia would use this approach to drown out the voices in their head. I was taken aback with how loud the headphone volume was which I'm sure is detrimental to the ear drums. I asked one of my clients why he did this and he said that it "distracted" him from the angry negative voices. The word "distracted" applies here because I apply this to my life as a PWS. I pay no attention to my stutter. When I do this I notice that it isn't as severe. I focus on being present. Just my 2 cents.
