This is where I’d recommend advertising. I usually say something like, “ oh no, I didn’t forget. I have a stutter.” And shake it off. Usually people are pretty apologetic. Sometimes I try to be funny before I disclose my stutter and I’ll say with a smile, “Yes, I did. My line of work is tough. I’m a secret agent and I have many names...” After I get a giggle or two I’ll say “ Actually I have a stutter...If you have any questions let me know.” I have a buddy that really likes to stick it to them and he says, “No. I have a stutter and it’s the single most difficult thing that I’ve had to over come in my life. Do you have a problem?”
