I hate it (well, not really hate since it's a nice gesture) but when cashiers, cab drivers etc randomly say merry christmas, happy new year and so on I usually stutter with the reply I stutter with the reply, and my way of stuttering is to be quiet until I can get it out. So they hear nothing from me, and since I have social anxiety I say "you too" so quietly I bet they barely hear it. This just happened with a cab driver and I still feel like a douche.
