Do I have to get diagnosed with a stutter?

Do I have to get diagnosed with a stutter? I mean if I stutter can I just say that I have a stutter? I didn't even know that you could be diagnosed with a stutter until a few weeks ago and I'm just wondering if its is necessary. I not really wanting to go to therapy for my stutter since its not really severe.
