What you wrote is very true. Believe or not, society has gotten better over the years with the mockery. I’m 71, and when I was young the mockery was beyond cruel. I decided in my teens to follow the old saying “don’t get mad, get even.” It actually worked for me. Stuttering in college was difficult, but when I graduated summa cum laude, I flipped off all the ‘barely graduated’ group. I have lots of life examples like that. Just the other day I went into a farm market and asked if they had any miniature eggplant. Of course I stuttered and the kid behind the counter mocked me. I. Took. Him. Down. I asked him if he was in college. No. I asked if he had any life plans. No. (He stuttered on the ‘no’) I then told him he was a loser and if mocking old ladies was the best he could do, he was more than a loser, he was a fucking idiot. I was beyond angry. I don’t know if any of you experience it, but when I’m really angry, I don’t stutter. I’m gritting my teeth and the words just flow out. No idea why. My adult sons used to acknowledge it as teenagers and say “she’s fluent, RUN”! LOL. Anyone else experience fluency when they’re angry?
