Honestly, you would be the perfect cashier. I would just make sure you are fast at scanning, don't get duped by fake bills, and always zero out the till at the end of a shift. Everything else is fluff. My brother was a cashier for a few years in high school (also stutters) and he didn't do the small talk thing and management hated him for it but he crushed all other cashiers when it came to scanned items per hour and his till always balanced out at the end of a shift. He had several meetings with management for getting smart with difficult customers and they still wouldn't fire him until he eventually quit. On the other hand, you can look at this as an opportunity to get comfortable making small talk with folks. It's a great skill to have in life, but don't feel pressured to. Again, you won't get fired for stuttering, you will get fired for messing up the till too many times. It's funny, I don't like it when cashiers ask for donations (I donate Doctor's without Borders monthly), ask me how I'm doing, or if I found everything alright. Like why would I wait until checkout to ask about an item and then hold up the line for someone to retrieve what I want? It's obvious that they're told to ask me that. If I'm a regular and they recognize me and I recognize them, that's another thing. It may happen in other countries, but all of the other's I've been to, they don't expect cashiers to make small talk, ask questions, or even stand the entire time when working.
