Help a high school senior please... Hi guys, I'm in my final year of high school and I have had to attend some interviews for some colleges that I applied to. I'm a decent student, and some of the interviews I've had to attend are from colleges that are tremendously hard to get into, like UVA and Dartmouth. Some context: I've had a stutter since I was like four. At times, it'd get so bad that I wouldn't talk at all for days to stop embarrassing myself, but at other times, I'd keep talking and talking without a single stutter. Over the years, I've found that I don't stutter as frequently when I'm speaking in English, whereas if I speak in one of the three Indian languages we speak at home, I stutter way more. All these years, I've dreaded presentations in school, but these college interviews are a whole other beast. When I'm talking to interviewers who did their undergrad at Penn and did their Master's at MIT, I just become so scared and start stuttering way more. I just finished an interview for another college less than an hour ago, and for the first 40 minutes, everything was perfect. I made my interviewer laugh with a few jokes and I didn't stutter at all. Then I started stuttering. And I stutter weirdly. When I can't pronounce a specific word, my head jerks up and down and my lips make a weird shape as I try to follow through with the word that I unsuccessfully started pronouncing. It looked like I was having a seizure, and I just feel so depressed now that I may have blown my shot at getting into one of these top colleges. Who would want to admit a freak like me into their college? Can someone please help me feel better?
