As far as you know are there any other stutterers in your family lines? Many times not, but professionals would ask you that. The causes of stuttering are unclear. Some can be emotional and some physical. Late-onset stuttering isn't very common. Can you identify anything in your physical or emotional health that might have triggered the stuttering?
