Stuttering and childhood trauma TRIGGER WARNING!!! DISCUSSION OF VIOLENCE AND TRAUMA Hey, I know this is a very sensitive matter but does anyone know if there is a connection between (early) childhood traumas and stuttering? If I am not mistaken, there is a broad scientific consensus that root of stuttering is a genetic predisposition (please correct me if I am wrong). But I have the suspicion that a childhood trauma can(!) function as a “trigger” for developing a stutter during early childhood. Now, I base this hypothesis on personal experience and conversations I have had with psychiatrists. Does anyone have similar suspicions or know of (peer-reviewed) studies in this matter?
