I definitely believe in the neuroplasticity of the brain, and its effects on stuttering. Personally, my stutter has improved greatly over the past 15 years. Internally, I imagine it as if now the words are taking a different path through my brain than they were before when I stuttered much more. I also think this because the language that I’m capable of producing via chat is quite different from my language when I’m verbally speaking. There are definitely different language centers or pathways in the brain. I attribute my improvement to the following factors: Extracting myself from the corporate world, which lowered my daily stress levels, which led to less overall stuttering and more time in fluency, allowing my brain to slowly rewire the speech pathways that I use in daily speech. Various forms of extended fasting, which reduces inflammation throughout your body and possibly brain, too. 15+ years of cold showers, which help improve your mental wellbeing and definitely change your physical fat constitution so hypothetically could also change your brain composition, too. Improved breathing through swimming. I don’t have any proof asides from my own experience to back up these statements. I’m throwing them out there in case they may help anyone else. For reference, I went from someone who never raised their hand in school to ask a question to someone who now enjoys striking up conversations with random people anywhere and enjoys learning new languages in a classroom setting.
