My mother says i first started stuttering as young as 3. It hindered me in terms of reading and general conversation. I was able to hold conversations with little stuttering at about 14 but reading was awful. Then about 2 years later I overcame my extreme reading issues but they were still apparent just not as bad. When I started to speak Irish it became a huge issue in trying to speak it as I was thinking so much and had to overcome the speaking issues again. The same happened to me in learning French and hindered me in my oral examinations but on the day I was alright. I’m 20 now and still struggle to tell stories, jokes, hold conversation with people I don’t know. With those I know well however it seems to be gone for the most part. But stories are still so hard for me to tell. Or telling someone what’s just happened or what’s just been said on a show. It never fully goes. Only conversing with my parents, friends, girlfriend is it gone but then returns when I’ve to tell a story or recall what’s happened in a programme as mentioned. Another thing I found about it is that whenever someone tries to finish my sentences I often finish mine as if my body forces it out of me ahead of them to prevent embarrassment. Hope this helps.
