Speech-language pathology students fake a stutter to practice empathy. Appropriate? Hi there! I'm a graduate student in a speech-language pathology program, and I'm currently taking a class on fluency. One of our class projects is a pseudo-stuttering assignment for which we must pretend to stutter with a stranger--ask for directions, advice, order a product, etc. While my professor introduced this assignment, she mentioned that some of us might feel like it's "inappropriate". And I did, but I couldn't quite place my feelings (and honestly, I don't think my perspective matters). If you stutter, what do you think about future SLPs faking a stutter? I should mention, the purpose of this project is to practice empathy.
