Imagine that you meet a child with a stutter. Maybe this child is you in the past, when you were a child feeling uncomfortable at school or talking with people. What would you say to him? That he has to stay at home alone, that he has to miss opportunities because of his disability? No, 100% you would encourage him, you would tell him that he has value, that he deserves respect, you would tell him to ignore judgments. Then : Why do we treat ourselves differently? Why do we refuse the compassion and love that we would offer to someone else? We deserve to say that to ourselves too. So yes. We need to stop being harsh on ourselves.
